Rector Search Committee

New Rector Collect: O creator of all peoples, who has sustained us with great leaders, now lead us, stretch us, and direct us, in our search for a new rector. Grant us wisdom in calling our new rector that we may continue to grow in the likeness of Christ and be a beacon of love and hope to our community and the world. To the glory of your holy name. Amen.

During the Spring of 2018, our rector accepted a call to serve a parish in New England. The Vestry began the prayerful process to consider who we are and where we aspire to be in the future as a Parish Family. One of our strengths and one of our challenges is the fact that our Parish is composed of two congregations, All Saints’ Church in Rehoboth and St. George’s Chapel in Harbeson, Delaware.

The Vestry selected a Rector’s Search Committee that mirrored the diverse makeup of our two congregations. Eight parishioners were chosen to serve, four from each congregation.  Early this year, the Committee was commissioned by the Vestry and charged with the responsibility to prayerfully consider the attributes and the qualities of character that are necessary for our new Rector. We undertook a broad survey of the Parish using the Congregational Assessment tool developed by Holy Cow Consulting. Additionally, we utilized the Pastoral Care and Counseling Center to interpret the results of the survey. As those steps were taken, we communicated regularly with the Vestry to ensure that their vision was being executed.

It was clear from the survey and the congregational meetings that following God’s call to “love one another”, serves as a chief cornerstone of our lives. We open our doors and hearts to all people, as we are all members of God’s family. Our love for each other and for the greater community has provided us with sustenance and that openness has sustained our ministries both within and outside our doors. What we do for each other informs what we do for those whose lives we touch each day in every one of our ministries.

The Search Committee has continued to meet weekly throughout the process to refine the characteristics that are desired in the position, finalize the parish profile and to support the redesign of the Parish Website. We are now ready to receive the necessary training from our supporting consultant, Mimi Delcuze, on the most effective and intentional methods to use in the review of applications, the interview of applicants, the presentation of applicants to the Parish and finally how to discern whom to call. At the Diocesan level, the committee works closely with the Bishop and his mission staff to be certain that our documents are complete.

As we enter this next phase of the process, we are energized and excited to move forward, as we welcome rector candidates and their families. We look to the future with faith and expectation that this process will allow us to select the strongest rector candidate knowing that God has guided us throughout this journey.

When love is the way, we will let justice roll down like a mighty stream and righteousness like an ever-flowing brook.
When love is the way, poverty will become history.
When love is the way, the earth will be a sanctuary.
When love is the way, we will lay down our swords and shields, down by the riverside, to study war no more.
